Case filed against former minister Basnet, 16 others at special court

Kathmandu. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against 16 people, including the then Minister for Information and Communications mohan Bahadur Basnet, for alleged irregularities in the procurement of Telecommunication Traffic Monitoring and Fraud Control System (TERAMAX).

The ciaa has filed the case against the then Chairman of Nepal Telecommunication Authority Digambar Jha, then nea members Dhanraj Gyawali and Tika Prasad Upreti, then chairman purushottam Khanal, nea director Bijaya Kumar Raya, deputy directors RewatiRam Pantha, Suresh Basnet, Hiranya Prasad Bastakoti and Achyutananda Mishra.

A case has also been filed against NRA directors Surendra Lal Hada and Dipesh Acharya, deputy director Sandeep Adhikari, chief executive officer of the consultancy company Jamal Anauti, local representative of the same company Dilip Kumar Gurung and director Tej Prasad Kharel, according to NHRC spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel.

The COMMISSION has demanded Rs 3.21 billion, Rs 8.3 million and Rs 77,182 each against the then Communications Minister Basnet. The Commission has accused the then minister of misusing his official authority to create a background to harm the organization by including additional programs not proposed by the AUTHORITY, not preparing for the purchase of Teramx, not preparing for the purchase of Teramx, not preparing the cost estimate and purchase master plan.
