Simkot. The Yari Naka Customs Office established in northern Hilsa here has collected Rs 755,000 in revenue. Ramraj Jaisi, Chief of the Yari Naka Customs Office, said that with two months left to end the fiscal year 2081/2082, it has collected Rs 700,000 in revenue.
Although the office had a target of collecting Rs 83,000 in revenue for this fiscal year, Chief Jaisi said that Rs 700,000 has been collected so far. He said that even though he is the only permanent employee, the office has collected more revenue than its target.
The highest revenue has been collected from shoes imported from neighboring China. The revenue has been collected from goods imported into Nepal, including shoes, PG, blankets, juice, chocolate, cement, saris, etc., not from the Hilsa checkpoint, said Jaisi, Chief of the Customs Office. It is estimated that more revenue will be generated within the current fiscal year.
There are ten regular traders here who import various materials through the Hilsa border crossing. They bring goods from China twice a year. The traders pay up to Rs 45,000 in revenue from various goods brought once.
While workers who have gone to work in China are exempted from revenue for bringing household goods worth up to Rs 15,000, revenue is collected from those who bring goods worth more than that. Small traders send workers to bring goods from China to Hilsa. He said that big traders seal the goods from there and bring them to Hilsa by vehicle.
This checkpoint collected Rs. 2.2 million in revenue in the fiscal year 2080/81. In the fiscal year 2079/80, Rs. 1.4 million in revenue was collected. The Yari checkpoint customs office is operational for only six months of the year. During the winter, the checkpoint is closed for six months and opened for six months due to snowfall. The Yari checkpoint customs office has been operational since April 13.
