Yaks and buffaloes are the identity and pride of Nepal: Agriculture Minister Adhikari

Kathmandu. Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has said that an organized effort should be made to protect and promote yak and buffalo farming in the Himalayan region. He said this at a program organized in Lalatipur on the occasion of Yak Day.

He said that yak and buffalo farming has been declining in recent times due to climate change and migration of the youth. He informed that buffalo farming is the main source of income for the communities living in the Himalayan region.

He said that products such as chhurpi, chhena made from buffalo milk are the backbone of the food of the communities in the Himalayan region. He said that yak and buffalo are also the center of attraction for tourism promotion. He said that products made from yak skin and tail can be exported abroad and foreign currency can be earned. He said that yak farming has made a significant contribution to the income generation of the Himalayan community, food and nutrition security, organic farming, environmental balance, etc. He said that yak and yak are the identity, pride and heritage of Nepal.

Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Rajendra Prasad Mishra said that Yak Day, which was started in Nepal, should be made an international day. He informed that it should be developed as a common culture and common asset of the countries that raise yak and yak.

He emphasized that the relevant countries Nepal, India, China and Bhutan should make yak farming a matter of international concern. He said that while celebrating the day, it should be celebrated in the yak farming areas. The government had declared April 7th as Yak Day to increase the attraction towards yaks and highlight their biological and economic importance.
