World Bank to provide $150 million to Nepal for road network expansion

Agency. The World Bank is set to provide $150 million to Nepal. The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has decided to provide this financial assistance for the expansion of Nepal’s strategic road network.

This assistance, which will be mobilized through the Roads Department, will be used for the expansion of strategic roads and the maintenance of bridges. Informing that the financial assistance to Nepal has been approved by the Board meeting, David Sislen, Regional Director for the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka of the World Bank, said that the expansion of strategic roads will help in expanding access to markets and services.

He said, “The resilience of Nepal’s road network is fundamental for safe and sustainable connectivity.” The program emphasizes resilient infrastructure development and works to provide vulnerable communities with access to markets and services, while also helping to promote sustainable growth in Nepal.’

According to the World Bank, this program will also help strengthen the capacity of the Roads Department and is expected to further strengthen institutional systems for effective infrastructure management.
