Kathmandu. The World Bank is set to provide 20.4 billion rupees to implement the Third Bridge Improvement and Repair Program. The bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a financial package of 150 million US dollars today.

The World Bank’s headquarters in Washington, DC, has said that this assistance has been approved for the maintenance and strengthening of bridges built on Nepal’s strategic road network.

Nepal’s bridge system has been playing a vital role in connecting remote and urban communities to livelihoods, health care, education, and economic opportunities, along with other basic services. As natural and climate-related hazards such as floods, landslides, and earthquakes seriously affect infrastructure such as bridges, the bank said in a statement.
