Kathmandu. Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Sharat Singh Bhandari has said that the government is working to solve the problems faced by Nepali citizens employed abroad.
Talking to media persons on the premises of the Parliament Building on Sunday, Minister Bhandari said this. According to Minister Bhandari, workers employed abroad are falling prey to ‘death traps,’ ‘digital traps,’ and ‘depth traps.’
He said that the expectations of family and society, debt pressure and work pressure have led to an increase in the number of workers falling prey to depression and even committing suicide. He mentioned that the huge loans taken for foreign employment are trapping workers in a financial spiral.
He said, “I have said that there are three traps in Nepal’s foreign employment sector. There is a death trap, a digital trap and a depth trap. We are working to remove it. 14,000 people were killed in the death trap in 16 years. Our people went there to fight, not for money. Now if that is the case, there is a problem somewhere or the other. The main problems are health and debt problems. People die of depression after doing good work to pay off their debts.’
The government claimed that it was reforming foreign employment policies, implementing strict monitoring of manpower companies, and implementing programs focused on the health and mental health of workers.
