Kathmandu. Senior Vice President of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialists), Rajendra Prasad Pandey, has stressed the need to make the winter session of the parliament effective.

In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he also discussed the government’s bringing of ordinances under the pretense of majority. He said that although it is the government’s right to bring ordinances, it will weaken the role of the parliament and the internal democracy of political parties.

‘It is not that the government cannot bring ordinances, it can. But the ordinance has been brought knowingly because the parliament session is starting in a few days,’ he said. ‘The tendency to bring ordinances also weakens the MPs within the party. The ordinance is leading the MPs to say that there is no room for discussion and no need for amendment.’

MP Pandey said that the government should not present itself in the style of doing whatever it wants when it has a two-thirds majority. He also claimed that there has been no significant improvement in the nearly seven months since the government was formed. ‘There has been no economic improvement. The unemployment rate has not decreased. The emigration of youth has not stopped. Villages have been emptied. So what are the achievements of the government?’, he asked.

Similarly, Pandey said that the construction of strategic roads for all constituencies and the construction of health posts in all municipalities is very slow. He also demanded that the Budhigandaki Hydropower Project and Nijgadh International Airport be taken forward expeditiously. He also says that the government has not paid attention to the issue of becoming self-reliant in agriculture.
