Kathmandu. There has been a disagreement between the Revenue Investigation and the Nepal Police in the investigation of 250 million foreign notes. Tensions have increased after the department tried to bypass the Nepal Police during further investigation.
On the night of Chait 40, a police team deployed from the Valley Crime Investigation Teku had recovered foreign currency worth 250 million rupees from a truck. After the amount was seized, the Teku police handed it over to the Revenue Investigation Department for further investigation. The police do not have the authority to conduct further investigations into foreign currency misuse.
After this, the department had sent the Nepal Police for a forensic report on the mobile phone of the driver Kusang Lama. It had asked the police for other assistance along with the forensic report. However, the police had intended for its representative to also participate in the investigation. But the department source claims that the department has rejected this.
The department source said, “The police had proposed to conduct an investigation in 3 models, but Director General Chandi Ghimire rejected the police’s proposal and used the intelligence of the Armed Police Force.” According to the source, the police had intended to have its representative in the first condition, and in the second condition, the police should get the entire investigation. But the department refused to work accordingly.
If the police are to get this investigation, the government itself will have to decide and provide it. Earlier, the government had decided to appoint the police as a representative in the investigation of the 60 kg of gold seized from the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office premises. The department has refused to appoint a police representative in the current illegal note investigation.
After the department’s refusal, the police have not openly cooperated with the department. The source added, “The department is not able to take further assistance in the investigation from the police. Based on the information received from the Armed Police, the name of Narayan Poudel has been made public to pressure the Nepal Police, saying that the owner of 250 million rupees has been found.” Narayan Poudel is currently absconding. An arrest warrant has been issued to arrest Poudel. The Armed Police Force’s capabilities alone cannot arrest him. Because Interpol’s help must be sought to arrest him outside the country. The police are absolutely necessary for this. The department has revealed that the owner of 250 million rupees has been found to pressure the Nepal Police.
Narayan Poudel has a permanent address in Sindhupalchowk district and is currently living in Kathmandu. According to department sources, the department has also collected information from the third layer in the investigation of 250 million illegal notes. However, the source claims that Narayan Poudel’s name was brought out to create pressure on the police. The police argue that the accused will abscond after it was revealed that Narayan Poudel is the owner of 250 million during the investigation.
