Kathmandu. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has a unique style in politics. He embraces those who support him and puts down his opponents.
For the past few days, there has been a dispute between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa over the issue of middlemen. On Baisakh 2, at a program, General Secretary Thapa had said that middlemen have ‘axis’ (entry permission) even to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s bedroom. Exactly 12 days later, on Baisakh 4, at a program, without mentioning Gagan Thapa’s name, Prime Minister Oli condemned Gagan Thapa’s statement in trivial terms. Prime Minister Oli claimed that Thapa could not prove that a middleman had arrived in his room.
He also said that what he said… I feel sorry for him. Before that, he had told the story of the blue fox and the story of the lion eating him. He had clearly referred to Blue Gagan Thapa and claimed that the blue fox’s hooves would not last long.
As if saying ‘crying a tiger and losing a goat’, a case was registered in the Supreme Court against Gagan Thapa on the same day for contempt of court. Advocates Anantaraj Luintel, Abhima Upreti and Vishal Thapa have filed a petition in the Supreme Court, saying that he made a statement with the intention of influencing the case regarding the constitutional appointment. A hearing has been scheduled for this petition on Tuesday.
Earlier, speaking at a program on Baisakh 11, General Secretary Thapa had alleged that a big deal was being made in the Supreme Court over the constitutional appointments of 52 brothers. He had said that the court was threatening to overturn various constitutional appointments. Similarly, he had said that since the Nepali Congress is not a party like KP Bahu, Bhim Rawal should not be a leader in any congress based on his words.
After KP Oli’s threat and the case in the Supreme Court, General Secretary Thapa’s speech has suddenly taken a ‘U’ turn in a single day. He has said that the government will move forward as per the agreement between the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress and will not engage in the game of toppling and forming the government now. General Secretary Thapa said that there should be no trading in dissatisfaction.
He said, “What the Nepali Congress Party has realized is that even though the general public is satisfied with the political achievements, there is a great restlessness and dissatisfaction today. The main reason for that dissatisfaction and restlessness is the political situation we are creating. The citizens’ expectations are not being met. That is why there is dissatisfaction. But we believe that this dissatisfaction should be removed. We should not trade in dissatisfaction. We should not take the dissatisfaction as a stimulus. We should address it. We should remove the restlessness and take it with us. We believe that we should move forward on that path. We now want to work accordingly. This is also the main issue of the government formed by the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML. This is also its main priority. With this in mind, especially in our economy, there are all kinds of problems and crises, and without addressing them, the dissatisfaction of the citizens cannot be addressed. Some time ago, the parliament passed some laws. However, we have considered them as a prelude. That is just the beginning. It brings a positive vibe, nothing more. We want to use this time.’
General Secretary Thapa made it clear that he would move forward in accordance with the cooperation with the CPN-UML and would not engage in political instability anywhere in the union or the province. He said that it is necessary to work in a way that produces results, not just to stay in the government. The expression of support for Prime Minister Oli has been viewed with particular attention as soon as a defamation case was filed against General Secretary Thapa, who has been highly critical of the government.
