Which former finance ministers attended the budget meeting called by Finance Minister Poudel?

Kathmandu. Former finance ministers have suggested bringing an implementable and realistic budget.

In the consultation on the budget for the fiscal year 2082/083 organized by the Ministry of Finance, former finance ministers have suggested bringing a practical budget rather than focusing on popular and slogans.

Former finance ministers have emphasized that priority should be given to large, profitable and implementable projects rather than proposing many projects. Similarly, they have also suggested giving priority to health, education and income-generating programs.

Former Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said that priority should be given to an implementable budget with ideological and policy clarity. Stating that the state is trying to do everything without sufficient resources, former Finance Minister Dr. Bhattarai stressed that the role of public, private, cooperatives and communities should also be clear.

Former Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat urged to bring limited and implementable projects by following the project classification criteria. He stressed that there should be coordination between fiscal policy and monetary policy.

Former Finance Minister Barshaman Pun expressed the view that it is necessary to complete projects of national pride in phases and said that the infrastructure built should be utilized properly. He mentioned that special importance should be given to information technology and suggested bringing a balanced budget in terms of provinces as well.

Similarly, former Finance Minister Janardan Sharma emphasized that import-based revenue should be based on domestic production.

He expressed the view that it is necessary to make a result-oriented budget rather than making new policies and that the private sector should be given responsibility for the construction of large infrastructure projects. Former Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that challenges should be taken as opportunities and the budget should be allocated in a way that maintains regional, provincial and geographical balance.

He expressed the view that attention should be paid to the development of all constituencies in a way that is felt by the people. Former Finance Minister Karki also suggested giving special emphasis to foreign investment. Similarly, former Finance Minister Shankar Koirala suggested completing old projects and keeping the limit of Rs 30 million in mind.

He suggested focusing on return-generating industries, noting that there has been a lot of progress in tourism, infrastructure, irrigation, energy and other sectors compared to the past. Former Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani said that it is necessary to bring a disciplined budget with income and expenditure plans at the federal, provincial and local levels.

He stressed on making budget preparation effective and result-oriented, mentioning the need for a mechanism to coordinate industry and agriculture. Former Finance Minister Dr. Roop Jyoti urged to promote and encourage competition through policy reforms to facilitate the private sector. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel stated that it is not possible to bring a budget by seeking popularity and said that they are preparing a realistic and disciplined budget.
