Kathmandu. Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Balram Adhikari, has said initiatives are being taken to solve the problems of land management and cooperatives. Responding to queries raised in today’s meeting of the National Assembly regarding the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation under the Appropriation Bill- 2082 BS, he said that the problems seen in the cooperatives would be resolved by managing the necessary budget.
Minister Adhikari clarified that the projects under the Ministry have to be shrunk due to lack of adequate budget allocation due to revenue collection and economic situation of the country. “A budget of Rs 7.49 billion has been allocated to our ministry for the next fiscal year. This would make it difficult to carry out the management of all offices related to land management and cooperatives. For this, we are taking initiatives to increase the budget with the Ministry of Finance. ’
According to Minister Adhikari, necessary initiatives have been taken to prevent budget crunch in all the 77 districts under the Ministry as there is a plan to set up office management, cooperative authority, cooperative problem resolution committee, debt recovery tribunal, loan information center and loan protection fund. He expressed the belief that the offices under the Ministry would be made systematic and technological.
Minister Adhikari also informed that 5,700 land parcels have been distributed to the landless, Dalits and disorganized people so far this year. Stating that the target is to manage all within three years, he said the land bill has been tabled in the House of Representatives for the same purpose.
