We will make policy reforms for tourism development: Tourism Minister Pandey

Kathmandu. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey has said that the ministry was focused on policy and structural reforms for the development of tourism in the country. Speaking on the occasion of the 72nd International Sagarmatha Day and ‘World Summiters Summit-2025’ organised by the Main Celebration Committee on Thursday, he said tourism would be developed through the tourism policy and tourism act which would be brought soon.

Tourism Minister Pandey has expressed confidence that the government would widen the partnership with the private sector by formulating a policy. He said the Sagarmatha Day would be made more grand and glorious in the coming days. Chief Minister of Koshi Province Hikmat Kumar Karki pointed out the need to pay attention to the conservation and cleanliness of Mount Sagarmatha. He pledged to move ahead in coordination with the federal government to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Deepak Raj Joshi said Sagarmatha is the pride, honor and pride of Nepal. Nepal Mountaineering Association President Nimanuru Sherpa pointed out the need to give priority to mountaineering-related activities by amending the old Tourism Act.

A group discussion session of record climbers was held at the ‘World Summiters Summit’. Kytimani climbers Mingma David Sherpa, Sanu Sherpa, Purnima Shrestha, Phunjo Lama, Kunjang Chopel Sherpa, Nima Rinji Sherpa and Dawa Tenji Sherpa shared their experiences of climbing. The government has honoured various personalities who have contributed to the mountain tourism sector. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli presented the International Sagarmatha Award to Mingma Gyalje Sherpa on the occasion of Sagarmatha Day. The award carries a purse of Rs 100,000 and a citation. He set a world record by climbing 14 8,000 meters high mountains in the world without oxygen.

Similarly, Tenzing Hillary (Study and Research) Award of Rs 50,000 was given to Sherpa Book writers Pradeep Basyal and Ankit Adhikari, while Tenzing Hillary (Search and Rescue) Award was given to Lakpa Nurbu Sherpa and Captain Maurizio Folini. Tenzing Hillary (Record Climber) Award has been given to Nima Rinji Sherpa and Pema Doma Female Climber Award to Lakpa Sherpa. Likewise, various personalities who have contributed in the field of mountain tourism and mountaineering were also honoured.
