We have prepared a temporary and long-term plan to stop the erosion of Saptakoshi: Home Minister Lekhak

Gaighat. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that a temporary and long-term plan will be prepared immediately to stop the erosion of the Saptakoshi River. While monitoring the erosion area of the Saptakoshi River in Belka Municipality area of Udayapur today, he said that necessary initiatives will be taken to stop the erosion.

‘The government will take steps with a temporary and long-term plan to stop the erosion caused by the Saptakoshi,’ said Home Minister Lekhak. He said that for the time being, initiatives will be taken to stop the erosion even if it is by operating a temporary plan from the Disaster Management Department. However, Minister Lekhak mentioned that they will move forward after reaching an agreement with friendly country India to stop the erosion permanently.

Home Minister Lekhak today inspected the river erosion areas of Sisauli, Saptakoshi Bridge area, Lahurekhonj and Kothu area of Ward No. 7 in Belka Municipality-8. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak said that a temporary embankment plan will be prepared and controlled for three kilometers downstream from the Saptakoshi Bridge in Belka and a permanent plan will be brought to stop erosion in the area 11 kilometers downstream from the Saptakoshi Bridge to Saptari.

Along with him, Nepali Congress leader and MP from Udayapur Constituency No. 1, Dr. Narayan Khadka, also monitored the erosion area. The floods in Saptakashi have been causing erosion in the coastal area every year. Ashok Karki, mayor of Belka Municipality, where hundreds of families have been displaced due to erosion, said.

“We have drawn the government’s attention through Home Minister Lekhak to move forward with the embankment plan, albeit temporarily, in the three-kilometer area that is currently at high risk from this year,” he said. MP Dr. Khadka said that Home Minister Lekhak monitored the erosion area of the Triyuga River after observing the erosion of the Saptakoshi River today.
