Kaski. Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the party has never abandoned the issue of identity and rights. Inaugurating the national gathering of Tamu Rashtriya Mukti Morcha Nepal in Pokhara today, he mentioned that different opinions were recorded regarding identity during the constitution-making process.
‘We have written down the rights of the oppressed classes and castes in the constitution as much as possible, but we have written different opinions on the things that we could not do. In the meantime, we held on to our classes, communities and our issues weakly. We had not stopped holding on, but we had not been able to hold on to them strongly. Now, with the united efforts of all, we will advance the issue of identity and rights,’ said Chairman Dahal.
Chairman Dahal made it clear that the party will not enter the government until the upcoming election of 2084 BS. He claimed that he would contest the election alone and bring a majority by strengthening the people. He said, ‘Congress and UML should contest the next election together. We will go to the people alone, we believe in the strength of the people. You should unite, show your strength.’
Chairman Dahal said that only a directly elected executive chief from the people can establish political stability and end corruption and ensure good governance. He said that if the constitution is to be amended, it should be amended for the electoral system and the system including a directly elected executive chief. ‘We are in favor of a directly elected executive chief and a proportional electoral system. Only this can maintain political stability and good governance.’
Deb Prasad Gurung, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center), said that the caste problem is a different form of the class problem. He informed that class and caste problems can be solved only in socialism. He said that the party will now be moved forward in a united manner under the leadership of Chairman Dahal. ‘Nationalism and socialist revolution are interdependent. Only socialism can address class and caste problems. This task can be completed only by ensuring people’s ownership of the means of production,’ he said.
Onsari Gharti, a member of the Standing Committee of the Maoist Center and former Speaker, said that the oppressed castes and communities in Nepal got their rights only because of the Maoist People’s War. The program honored the elected representatives of various municipalities in the country in the 2079 BS local elections.
