Kathmandu. Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa has said that the human rights of the detainees have been fully guaranteed. He said this at the meeting of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee under the House of Representatives held at Singha Durbar on Sunday.
He said that the detainees have been provided with basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing, and claimed that the detainees are being detained in accordance with the standards of physical infrastructure. He said that cases are being filed against the accused from various permanent and temporary units across the country. He said that some police units have problems keeping detainees because they do not have physical infrastructure.
He said, “In general, when we talk about our physical infrastructure, when we talk about the physical infrastructure that has been built now, in the newly built buildings, we have managed to keep detainees in accordance with the current standards, to ensure that the human rights of the detainees are fully guaranteed, such as food, shelter and basic needs of clothing, the state has done it and Nepal Police has been appointed, but there are such police units, but we have 2,601 permanent structures, some temporary, and 242 units where cases are being tried. We do not even have a building in 1039 units.” We have had to take people and control them even in places where there is no building. We have faced problems there.’
Inspector General Thapa said that a nationwide campaign on drug control is being conducted under the initiative of the Home Minister. He said that a large number of active drug dealers have been arrested by the police across the country and investigation and action is being taken.
He said, ‘On the initiative of the Home Minister and under his chief hospitality, we have launched a nationwide campaign on drug control in Kathmandu. And we have taken that campaign nationwide. We have arrested a large number of people involved in sieges and sieges and businessmen.’
Inspector General Thapa said that the condition of most district police offices and detention buildings across the country is deplorable, adding that it would take 30 years to construct the buildings with the budget provided annually by the government for physical construction.
