Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai has said that the Government of Nepal has been successful in highlighting the issues of the mountains through the Sagarmatha Dialogue organized for the first time.
Addressing a press conference here today after the conclusion of the dialogue, he said Nepal has achieved success in further elevating its image in the world, highlighting the climate challenges and ongoing issues. He said, “The issues of the mountains have been highlighted in the dialogue, these are the issues of concern not only in the mountainous region but also in the islands. ’
Secretary Rai said that discussions were held in the dialogue on moving forward with partnership at regional and global level on climate issues, adding that extensive and productive discussions were held regarding the cooperation and cooperation of developed countries to the least developed and developing countries.
He said the dialogue was successful in drawing the attention of the world to the inability of such countries to implement the Paris Agreement and their nationally determined contribution targets. He said that all the participants have expressed their commitment to solve the problems of climate change with global partnership.
The Sagarmatha Sambad programme, which started on May 15, concluded today. Since the opening ceremony, 12 parallel sessions, additional sessions and roundtable meetings on global and regional partnerships have been held so far.
Secretary Rai said the messages and conclusions of the dialogue would be taken to regional and international forums, including the Glacial Conservation Conference to be held in Tajikistan later this month, the UN High-Level Political Forum to be held in July, the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations to be held in September and the COP-30 to be held in Brazil. According to him, the ‘Sagarmatha Action Call’ has been issued incorporating the views, suggestions and in-depth perspectives expressed during the dialogue.
