Kathmandu. Lawmakers have objected that although the constitution guarantees the right to equality to both father and mother, it has not been addressed in the formulation of the law. The lawmakers made the complaint while discussing with the members who proposed to amend the Bill 2081 to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act- 2063 BS on Friday.
They said that this bill should be able to move forward by incorporating both to end discrimination. Speaking at the committee meeting, CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Madhav Sapkota said the citizenship bill itself was very sensitive and it would edit and address the identity and rights of the citizens.
Stating that although the constitution has accepted men and women as equality, the father and mother could not be treated equally while formulating the law, he said that this law should be implemented to end this discrimination.
“This bill itself is a very sensitive bill. It edits and addresses the identity and rights of citizens. We have accepted men and women as equality in the constitution. That right, identity in terms of everything. We have not been able to take father and mother equally while making laws. This is another type of discrimination. This law should be implemented to end this discrimination. The Constitution guarantees the right to equality to both father and mother, but it has not been addressed in law making. Let this bill be included. ‘
Chief Whip of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Gyan Bahadur Shahi said that the Citizenship Act in 2063 BS would automatically be abolished if people who have obtained citizenship on the basis of descent go abroad and take citizenship of any country.
It is sad that the children of those whose ancestors built this country will not get citizenship. He said that the problem of giving citizenship of Nepal to foreigners easily has created problems. He said that the citizenship of citizens who have obtained citizenship on the basis of descent should not be canceled.
“We got citizenship on the basis of descent. Those who get citizenship on the basis of descent are the descendants of those who created this country. According to the Citizenship Act in 1963, if people who have obtained citizenship on the basis of descent go abroad and take citizenship of any country, then it is automatically abolished. Due to this, the people of Nepal who want to return to the country and want to invest, that could not be done. ‘
“There was a law in Nepal not to allow them to come to Nepal. Because they were made foreigners forever, the citizenship of the descendants was automatically canceled. Even if they earned billions of rupees, they could not come to Nepal and invest. Because they have made citizenship foreign. There was treason. Those whose ancestors created this country, today their children are foreigners, foreigners are easily given citizenship of Nepal, it has created problems. Citizenship of citizens who have obtained citizenship on the basis of descent should not be canceled,” he said.
