We have accelerated the construction of permanent housing in western Nepal: Home Minister

Kathmandu. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that the construction of permanent housing damaged by the West Nepal earthquake is progressing at a rapid pace. He said this while talking to media persons after the meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority’s working committee held at Singha Durbar on Thursday.

He said that the construction of permanent housing for the damage caused by the earthquake with epicenters in Doti, Bajhang and Jajarkot has been completed and the work of repairing the remaining ones has been progressed. He said that the work of resettlement and reconstruction in Jajarkot has already begun.

He also said that the work of disbursing grants from the central government has begun, and informed that due to the incessant rains in the month of Ashwin, Bagmati, Koshi Province and other places were damaged by floods, landslides and inundation, and for that, it has been decided to proceed with the immediate demolition work and to move forward with the demolition work and to make permanent private residences where they should be permanent and temporary where they should be temporary.

Home Minister Lekhak said, ‘Especially in Doti, Bajhang, the earthquake that occurred with the epicenter in Jajarkot. Regarding that, we had decided to carry out DDA in places where DDA could not be done, to carry out DDA in places where DDA has been done, and to proceed with the construction of private temporary residences in places where DDA has been done. I myself had also inaugurated three offices to work on the West Nepal earthquake. Information was gathered in today’s meeting about that. The work that is yet to be done to provide assistance to the victims of the West Nepal earthquake and the DDA has also progressed rapidly. The work of constructing permanent housing has also progressed in the places where DDA has been completed.’

‘Work has also begun in Jajarkot itself by moving forward with the work of resettlement and reconstruction. The work of sending grants has begun from here. The work that was stopped for one and a half to two years has progressed. Due to the incessant rains of last Ashwin month, especially in Bagmati, Koshi Province and other places, there was damage due to floods, landslides and inundation. For that, it has been decided to move forward with the work that has been started immediately and to move forward with the work that has been started by making private houses permanent where they should be made permanent and temporary where they should be made temporary. We will move forward with the work within a week. We will also build private temporary and permanent houses. We will move forward soon. There has been talk of being prepared for all types of risks that may arise from disasters in the coming days and moving forward with that kind of preparation,’ he said.
