‘We are working with the goal of generating an additional 25,000 megawatts of electricity in ten years’

Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has claimed that the government is working with a target of generating an additional 25,000 megawatts of electricity in the next ten years. He made this claim while responding to questions asked by lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

He said that the government has set a target of generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity in the next ten years and is working accordingly. He said that since he took over the ministry, 16 hydropower projects have been granted survey permits, 33 transmission line survey permits, 16 hydropower construction permits and 11 transmission line construction permits have been granted.

He also mentioned that 14 solar power survey permits and 2 solar power construction permits have been granted. He said that 950 megawatts are currently being exported to India. He claimed that based on the survey, 13,500 megawatts of electricity will be consumed domestically in the next ten years and that a market has been ensured for the remaining electricity.

He claimed that the repair work of the international transmission lines connected to India has begun.
