US military helicopter and plane collide in Washington, 18 bodies found

Kathmandu. An American Airlines plane has crashed near Washington, DC, in the United States after colliding with a US military Black Hawk helicopter. There were 64 people on board, including 60 passengers and four crew members. Local media quoted police officials as saying that 18 bodies have been found so far.

The Bombardier CRJ-700 was en route from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington. According to US media, witnesses said that the plane broke into two in the air and fell into the Potomac River after the crash. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the river.

An investigation has been launched into the incident that occurred near Washington Reagan National Airport at 9 pm local time. A large number of emergency services personnel have arrived at the airport following the crash.

More than 10 ambulances and trucks are also at the scene. Reagan Airport issued a statement on social media saying, “All flights are suspended for the time being.” A US military official told US news channel CBS that the helicopter that crashed was a US Army Black Hawk helicopter.

The helicopter was carrying three US soldiers. There were no senior officers on board, and the condition of the soldiers on board is also unclear. US President Donald Trump issued a message on social media after the crash, saying, “I am fully aware of the accident at Reagan National Airport. The situation is being monitored.” He expressed his condolences to those who lost their lives in the accident and said, “May God grant peace to the souls of the deceased.”
