Kathmandu. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has called an emergency meeting due to developments in West Asia, its Director-General Rafael Grossi said on Sunday.

In a post on X, Grossi said, “Due to the emergency situation in Iran, I am calling an emergency meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors for tomorrow.” The IAEA confirmed on Sunday that there had been no increase in radiation levels outside the site following recent attacks on three major Iran nuclear sites, including Fordo’s underground enrichment facility.

“The IAEA can confirm that there has been no report of any increase in radiation levels outside the site since the attacks on three Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordo. As more information becomes available, the IAEA will provide further assessments of the situation in Iran,” the agency said in a statement.

The IAEA statement comes in the wake of heavy military strikes by the United States and Israel targeting nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan and Fordo. The attacks involved B-2 spirit bombers built by Northrop Grumman.

Iran condemned the attack as a violation of international law and vowed to continue its nuclear program. A statement issued by Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) confirmed on Sunday morning that Iran’s nuclear sites were “subject to barbaric attacks — an act in violation of international law, especially the NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty)”.

“This act of violating international norms has unfortunately resulted in the apathy and even participation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” the AEOI said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has praised the military action under US President Donald Trump, saying trump’s bold decision to target Iranian nuclear facilities will change history.

The conflict between Israel and Iran entered its ninth day on Saturday and now the United States has joined israel’s support. Meanwhile, the Israeli Air Force launched a new wave of air strikes targeting military bases in western Iran on Sunday, shortly after an Iranian missile attack injured civilians in Israel. The conflict between Israel and Iran began on June 13 after Israel launched a massive air strike called ‘Operation Rising Lion’ on Iranian military and nuclear sites.

In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a massive drone and missile operation called ‘Operation True Promise 3’ targeting Israeli fighter jet fuel production facilities and energy supply facilities.
