Kathmandu. Swastishree Gurukul IB World School inaugurated the much-awaited Model United Nations (SG MUN) 4.0. SG MUN 4.0 has been organized with the objective of ‘Today’s learning, tomorrow’s leadership’, in an effort to orient students towards practical learning rather than confining them to classrooms and textbooks.
(SG MUN) 4.0 Director General Secretary and Class 12 student Adhish Binod Pokharel warmly welcomed the guests and the delegates participating for the first time in the inaugural address. He has been associated with (SG MUN) since the first edition.
He was supported by class 10 student and deputy general secretary Zenith Karki. Representatives of Swastishree Gurukul have been reaching out to the highest level in the past by participating in wimun and the UNITED NATIONS headquarters held in New York.
After three successful editions, student-led SG MUN 4.0 continues its mission to provide inspired youth with an important platform for intellectual, social, and moral development by emulating the UN session.
Chevan Rai, Managing Director of Che&Co and Reshmi Sunar, Associate, Diversity and Inclusion program of UNFPA Nepal, delivered speeches as special guests and gave an emotional and inspiring message while recalling their own MUN experience.
He said, “I gained confidence. I discovered a new side of myself. When the youth can flourish, the entire community thrives. Young people like you are organizing such a world-class event, bringing in 40 sponsors is inspiring and when the youth moves forward, the community moves forward, I hope you will question everything you see. ‘
Speaking on the occasion, Simrika Sharma, Chief of The United Nations Information Centre, Kathmandu, said, “Diplomacy is not just about shoots and meetings, but also a process of communicating with different opinionees. ‘
Neha KC, principal of Swastishree Gurukul, praised SGMUN as “a platform that brings together passion, diplomacy and the power of the voice of the youth”. She warmly welcomed all the delegates and thanked the many sponsors who made the event possible.
SGMUN 4.0 will continue until July 22, where delegates will gain knowledge of the students’ rationality, the ability to find solutions to problems, critical thinking, the practice of assimilating different ideas, as well as how world politics and international conferences are conducted.
