Kathmandu. CPN (UML) MP Thakur Prasad Gaire has accused former King Gyanendra Shah of trying to undermine democracy. Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, MP Gaire made this allegation.
He also accused former King Shah of insulting martyrs in a video message released on Democracy Day.
He also claimed that the monarchy fell because of former King Shah. He said that the monarchy ended because the Shah violated the constitution and imposed autocracy.
He said, ‘On Falgun 7, the former king tried to insult the martyrs of Nepal, the martyrs who contributed to the change of Nepal, and to poison democracy. After the 2046 BS change, during the 2048 BS election, after the then king tried to violate some provisions of the constitution, the people’s leader Madan Bhandari had said – Your Majesty, don’t raise your hands.’
‘Don’t blink your eyes. Sit in the seat provided by the constitution. We have no objection. However, an attempt was made to violate the constitution. “No one can stop the end of the monarchy. King Gyanendra tried to violate the constitution. He tried to misuse and insult the opportunities given by the constitution. He tried to impose autocracy and ban the parties. The result of that is the end of the monarchy,” he said.
He also urged the Shah to take the place of the former king and make good use of the rights granted by the current system.
