Kathmandu. Ukraine and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday, including an agreement to grant the United States access to Kiev’s natural resources and minerals, a source in Kiev said.
Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svirdenko said on social media that she was pleased to announce the signing of a US memorandum of understanding on the establishment of an economic partnership agreement and an investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Kyiv and Washington had planned to sign an agreement to mine Ukrainian minerals a few weeks ago, but a disagreement between President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky in February stalled the agreement process.
Trump, on the other hand, said that former US President Biden had The US is reportedly seeking royalties on profits from Ukrainian resource extraction as compensation for the aid. Yulia Svirdenko, who declined to release details of the memorandum of understanding, said work was ongoing to finalize and secure the final agreement.
“We hope that this fund will be an effective tool to attract investment for Ukraine’s reconstruction, infrastructure development, trade cooperation and economic opportunities,” she said. US officials have said that boosting US business in Ukraine would help maintain a ceasefire and deter Russia from future aggression. Kiev has been pressing for an agreement and military security guarantees to end the ongoing war.
