Myagdi. Two schools in Beni municipality have been closed due to lack of students. Jagannath Basic School of Upper Gajane of Beni-5 and Okhale Primary School of Ward No. 10 have been closed.

Education Officer of Beni Municipality, Kamal Dhakal, said that the teachers of both the schools have been managed in the nearby schools as no students have been admitted in the new academic session.

“Due to the low number of students for Jagannath and Okhle Basic, the classes were reduced from 1-3 in the last academic session,” he said. ’

Last year, there were five students in Okhle Basic School and three in Jagannath. According to the municipality, okhale’s child development assistant has been managed at Deepak Secondary School and Jagannath’s child development assistant at Dumba Basic.

Despite the availability of well-equipped buildings, internet, electricity, drinking water, toilets, computers and other infrastructures, the number of students in the community schools in the rural areas is decreasing every year due to migration. According to Mayor Surat KC, 11 schools were adjusted in the academic year 2079 and seven in 2080 due to lack of number of students required to run the classes.

Rapid migration, attraction towards private schools, inability to inspire the confidence of parents, inability to teach in English medium have put community schools in crisis, said Mayor KC.
