Kathmandu. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Thursday ordered the military to prepare a plan to allow Palestinians to leave Gaza.
“I have instructed the IDF (military) to prepare a plan that will enable Gaza residents to voluntarily depart,” he said in a statement. Defense Minister Katz gave the military clear instructions to prepare to “allow anyone who wants to go to any country willing to accept any Gaza resident to do so.”
“The plan will include options for exit via land crossings as well as special arrangements for departure by sea and air,” Katz said. The comments came after US President Donald Trump unveiled his plan to “occupy the Gaza Strip.” Trump’s comments prompted criticism from world leaders and attempts by his administration to retract them.
Katz said he welcomed “Trump’s bold plan to resettle a large number of Gazans to locations around the world.” He said the plan would help Gazans who want to leave “integrate better into host countries and facilitate progress on reconstruction programs for a demilitarized, safe Gaza.”
Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich praised Katz’s move. “I welcome the Defense Minister’s decision to instruct (the Israeli military) to prepare for the implementation of our role in the immigration plan and to facilitate the departure of Gazans to receiving countries,” Smotrich said in a statement.
