Kathmandu. Tribhuvan International Airport has been operational for 18 hours a day from today. For the expansion of the airport, the airport was closed for 10 hours a day for five months from last Kartik 23 to Chaitra 18 to build physical infrastructure under the capacity expansion of the airport.
From today, the airport will be open from 6:00 am to 12:00 midnight, informed the airport’s General Manager Jagannath Niraula. According to him, the construction of the link way connecting the airport’s taxiway with the runway has been completed. The construction of the parallel taxiway is ongoing.
The Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project under the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal is expanding the parallel taxiway on the south-west side of the airport, the international apron on the north side, and the hangar apron on the east side of the airport.
The project has stated that it will cost about 15 billion to complete these works. Project Chief Dipendra Shrestha said that 90 percent of the work has been completed so far. Although the physical infrastructure work of the airport, which is to be done at night, is almost complete, the project has stated that it will take about one and a half years to complete the entire project.
