Trial production of Relekhola Hydropower Project begins

Myagdi. Myagdi: The six-megawatt Relekhola Hydropower Project constructed at Narchiang of Annapurna Rural Municipality-4 in Myagdi district has started test production. Hume Consult Pvt. Ltd. has started generating electricity from this week for testing after completing the physical infrastructure of the project.

One of the two units (turbine generators) at the power house has been successfully tested and the other unit will be tested on Friday, said Homnath Pandey, public relations officer of the project. “A joint team of nepal electricity authority, consultants, promoters and technicians of the contractor has been engaged in the test work,” he said. ‘

Civil contractor Sakura Power Construction has constructed a dam at Kalokhola at the foot of Khopara Lake, two water-guzzling ponds 50-50 metres long, a power house at Relekharka and a 3,600-metre pipeline from the dam to the power house.

A 5-km transmission line of 33 kv capacity has been constructed connecting The Power House, Switchyard and Dana Substation of Relekharka. The pipeline has been installed as an alternative to tunnels and canals. Construction of power generation structures and equipment have been installed by pumping water into the power house from 505 meters above.

Public Relations Officer Pandey said that the construction of the dam and intake constructed at Kalokhola of the project, which was started in 2079 BS with the goal of completing it in two years, has been affected due to the floods on May 15, 2081.

Himalayan Bank and Rastriya Banijya Bank have invested rs 1.2 billion in the project. The project has constructed a 17-kilometer access road from Beshigaun of Narchiang to lekgaun to the dam and power house construction site. The approach road of the project has also benefited the residents of Lekgaun.
