Kailali. The work of establishing a primary trauma center, which was supposed to be built in Lamki, Kailali, has not been able to move forward. The work has been stalled for four years due to the inability to obtain the necessary land for the construction of the trauma center infrastructure.
The Urban Development and Building Construction Office, Kailali, has stated that the budget that the government has been allocating for the establishment of the trauma center for the past four years is being frozen. Although the government has allocated a budget of 5 million in the current fiscal year for the establishment of the trauma center, the necessary process has not been able to move forward due to the inability to obtain the land, said Pushparaj Bhatta, Information Officer and Engineer of the Urban Development and Building Construction Office, Kailali.
According to him, Rs. 50 million was allocated under the multi-year plan for the construction of a 50-bed trauma center in the last fiscal year 2080.81. In addition, Rs 50 million was allocated in the fiscal year 2078/79. In the fiscal year 2079.80, a budget was allocated for the establishment of a trauma center after conducting a feasibility study in Lamki, Kailali. Bhatta, the office’s information officer, also informed that he has been urging the health office and the concerned municipality to ensure the land.
The concept of building a trauma center was started because there are more vehicle accidents in the Chisapani-Lamki section of the East-West Highway and the injured die prematurely if they do not receive timely treatment. Currently, citizens of this area are forced to go to Nepalgunj and India for general and emergency treatment.
