Kavrepalanchok. Coffee farmers of Mahabharat Rural Municipality-5 have been provided training on production and processing technology. The training was provided to farmers under the ‘Community-Based One Ward, One Product’ program in coordination with the Bagmati Province Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and the Agricultural Development Office and Mahabharat Small Farmers Agricultural Cooperative Society.
Bagmati Province Assembly Member Ratna Prasad Dhakal said that in order to effectively implement the ‘One Ward, One Product’ program, Mahabharat and Khanikhola Rural Municipality, Mandadeupur Municipality, and Bhumlu and Chaurideurali Rural Municipality of Kosi have potential for coffee production, so the goal is to develop those areas as coffee pocket areas in partnership with the local level.
Mahabharat Rural Municipality Chairman Kanchhalal Jimba informed that the municipality is working on it as infrastructure, including roads and electricity, is necessary to develop agriculture as an enterprise, so the municipality is working on it as a priority. Kul Prasad Dawadi, head of the Agricultural Development Office, said that since last year, a community-based One Ward One Production program has been operating in Mahabharat Rural Municipality, and training is being arranged this year to increase coffee production.
He informed that the Agricultural Development Office plans to distribute 40,000 coffee seedlings this year. This year, it has been stated that technology will be introduced in coffee processing in that ward with a cost sharing of 30 lakhs from the provincial government, 10 lakhs each from the rural municipality and the farmers. Hasta Bahadur Darlami, chairman of the Mahabharat Small Farmers Agricultural Cooperative Society, expressed confidence that productivity will increase with the introduction of new technology. 90 farmers participated in the three-day training.
