Kathmandu. Former Finance Minister and CPN-UML Vice President Surendra Pandey has said that the tourism sector will be the biggest source of income for Nepal in the future. Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu, he said this.
He said that it is necessary to promote the tourism sector in a way that can attract more domestic and nearby tourists. He said that Nepal should move forward with its plans to attract more tourists from China and India.
He said that tourism plans should be moved forward targeting the middle class of China and India, and asserted that Nepal’s economy would be transformed if 5 million Indians and 5 million Chinese tourists from India and China entered Nepal every year.
Emphasizing the need to build tourism infrastructure that can support them, former Finance Minister Pandey said, “Nepal’s biggest resource in the future could be tourism. What I see in it is that people who are close to each other will go to nearby places rather than who will travel the most and where they will go. Many rich people do not come here. But middle-class Chinese and Indian people can come here. They have a large population. There is a possibility that 5 million Indians and 5 million people from China can come here. But we do not have the infrastructure.” What will happen to Nepal’s economy if five million tourists from India and five million from China come to Nepal continuously for 10 to 15 years? That is possible. But we are only doing big things. Our claim now should be on tourism, especially tourism in the neighborhood. The other is agriculture.’
Former Finance Minister Pandey said that it is necessary to find an effective government.
