Kathmandu. CPN (UML) MP Raghuji Pant has said that the incident that took place in Tinkune on Chaitra 15 was a ‘soft coup’ carried out with the encouragement of former King Gyanendra Shah.
Speaking at the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, MP Pant said this. He said that the government should clarify to the people about the involvement of former King Gyanendra in the Tinkune incident.
He also clarified that the incident that took place on Chaitra 15 was not of a constitutional nature. He asked why the government was sitting idly by while the protesters tried to occupy Singha Durbar, Narayanhiti and the Parliament building. He objected that the government could not arrest the commander of the demonstration even though he had made violent statements in public.
He said, ‘What is the role of Gyanendra Shah in all these roles? If not, don’t say it, if yes, then he had to come among the people to prove it. And what will the government do to whoever does that? In my analysis, the 15th was an attempt at a soft coup at the instigation of the former king. Its character is not constitutional. Occupying Singha Dabar, occupying Narayanhiti and occupying Parliament are the same. And what is the government waiting for? Durga has spoken publicly and has been giving speeches saying to bring whatever weapons are available.’
He emphasized that this demonstration should not be taken lightly. He believes that a judicial commission should not be formed in such incidents and that action should be taken against those who call themselves His Majesty’s government.
