Ranjha. Stricter measures have been taken at the Jamunah checkpoint in Nepalgunj to discourage Nepalese consumers from shopping at the Indian market Rupaidihama.

The main customs checkpoint at Jamunah has been tightened after all kinds of food items, including daily necessities, entered Nepal from the Indian market, affecting customs revenue and Nepalgunj’s business, said Janardan Poudel, head of the Nepalgunj Customs Office.

‘Although there is a legal provision that customs revenue must be paid when bringing goods worth more than Rs. 100 into Nepal, the restrictions have been imposed because some concessions on the import of daily necessities on the basis of practicality have negatively affected customs revenue collection and Nepalgunj’s business and business,’ he said. ‘In order to control revenue leakage and achieve the revenue collection target of the Nepalgunj Customs Office, as per the decision of the Revenue Advisory Committee The Jamuna border crossing has been tightened.’

He said that the security patrol team has also actively carried out regular work at the rural border crossing. Nepalgunj businessmen had repeatedly urged Banke Chief District Officer Dharmaraj Joshi and Nepalgunj Customs Office Chief Poudel to tighten customs at the Jamuna border crossing.

‘Some people may find it unpleasant at first, and complaints have also started coming in asking why they have tightened even small things. There is a national tax on a sack of sugar and a sack of rice,’ said Banke Chief District Officer Joshi, ‘If we start buying from here, thinking that we will eat Nepali food and eat less, our business will flourish, so we have tried to tighten the customs a little.’

The Nepalgunj Customs Office has not been able to consistently achieve the set target in the previous fiscal years. After the target was not achieved in the last fiscal year, the target of the Nepalgunj Customs Office for the current fiscal year 2081/82 was reduced by 1 billion compared to the previous fiscal year.

The customs collection target in the current fiscal year was reduced to Rs. 27.18 billion 35.89 billion, compared to the target set for the previous fiscal year 2080/81. However, while customs revenue collection was Rs 18.157239 billion in the last fiscal year, the target for the current fiscal year has been set at Rs 27 billion more, so achieving the customs target in the current fiscal year is a challenge.

The Nepalgunj Customs Office has collected Rs 12.6596 billion in revenue from Shrawan to Falgun in the fiscal year 2081/82.

The Nepalgunj Customs Office, which had set a target of collecting Rs 27.1835 billion in revenue this fiscal year, has collected only 46.5 percent of the revenue in eight months, informed Poudel, Chief of the Nepalgunj Customs Office.
