Chitwan. Three rhinos have been transferred from the western sector of Chitwan National Park to the eastern sector. The rhinos were transferred to the eastern sector on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
All three rhinos have been brought to the Khagendramalli area of the eastern sector and released. During the internal transfer, a 15-year-old female rhino was brought on Saturday and a 16-year-old male rhino was brought on Monday, informed the park’s information officer Avinash Thapa Magar.
According to him, the male rhino was brought from the Model Intermediate Community Forest Pithauli on Monday, while both the rhinos transferred on Saturday and Sunday are from Amaltari in the western sector of the park. The rhino that was darted on Monday was relocated and released that evening.
The rhino that was darted on Saturday was brought to the eastern sector of the park on Sunday morning and the rhino that was darted on Sunday was brought to the eastern sector of the park on Sunday evening and released. The relocation work is being done with a plan to internally relocate four rhinos this year.
The park relocated six rhinos last year. Based on the study team’s recommendation to the park to relocate 10 rhinos from the western zone, four more rhinos are being relocated this time.
The technical team for the rhino relocation has started the relocation work from Amaltari in the western zone of the park in Nawalpur. One more male rhino is being brought to the east.
