Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has expressed his commitment to conduct a fair investigation into the violent incident that took place against the media and media personnel in Tinkune, Kathmandu on Friday, Chaitra 30, and take maximum action against the culprits. Receiving a letter of attention from a team led by the General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Ram Prasad Dahal, at the ministry today, Home Minister Lekhak said that the government is serious about the incident in which anarchic, violent and unprincipled mob created chaos in Tinkune.
‘The anarchic mob in Tinkune had no specific ideology or principle, only the intention and goal was to commit criminal acts.’ Home Minister Lekhak said, ‘The mob that was wreaking havoc showed ferocity, and the media houses and media personnel have been affected by it. The Nepal government is serious about this issue.’
He said that the government will conduct a fair investigation into the incident of setting fire to houses where journalists were staying and targeting media houses and media personnel during the violent protests and take action against the guilty parties. .
Similarly, Home Minister Lekhak said that he was serious about the issue of journalist Suresh Rajak who lost his life in the Tinkune incident and other injured journalists, and that the government was working on what could be done about it. On the occasion, General Secretary Dahal requested an impartial investigation into the incident of the death of a photojournalist and attacks on media houses in the Tinkune incident and to take maximum action against the guilty parties, according to the Home Minister’s Secretariat.
