Kathmandu. A high-level delegation including World Bank Regional Director for South Asia Matthew Varghese, who is on a visit to Nepal, has highly praised the technology-friendly service delivery being provided by Chandragiri Municipality in areas such as education, health, infrastructure development, heritage and cultural conservation.
The team appreciated the involvement and participation in planning, budget and program management, implementation capacity management, accounting and reporting, monitoring, evaluation and audit, and revenue management, and also raised questions about the coordination and collaboration between the three levels of government after the implementation of federalism in Nepal.
Chandragiri Municipality Mayor Ghanashyam Giri, Deputy Mayor Basanti Shrestha, Municipal Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Khadgi, Ward Chairperson and Acting Administrative Officer Sujan Raj Khanal, Economic Administration Branch Chief Mahesh Dutta Bhatta, Human Resources and Internal Management (Administration Branch) Damodar Rijal and other department heads held discussions with the high-level team at Chandragiri Municipality on Sunday.
In the discussion, Mayor Giri made a presentation about the technology-friendly service delivery being carried out by the municipality, including education, health, infrastructure development, heritage and culture conservation, and said that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals is a high priority.
He said, ‘Areas such as good governance, disaster management, environment and waste, urban safety, production, employment and marketing are priorities.’ The Clean Local Assessment Report has been submitted to the United Nations.’
Verghese, Regional Director for South Asia at the World Bank, said that the experience of technology-friendly service delivery, including education, health, infrastructure development, heritage and cultural conservation, being carried out by Chandragiri Municipality, will be exemplary for others.
He said, ‘It has been a historic moment for me to get information about the activities of Chandragiri Municipality during my visit to Nepal.’
