Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that the news of the removal of Kulman Ghising, Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, from his post reached the media before the decision of the Council of Ministers.
Speaking at a department-level interaction program on the Right to Information organized by the National Information Commission in Kathmandu on Friday, the journalist said that it was unfortunate that he received the information in advance. He said that the news of Kulman’s removal from his post had been published online 18 minutes before the end of the Council of Ministers meeting. He said that he had also spoken to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on the matter.
He said that the online news source is a minister? Who said it without the spokesperson saying it? And he insisted that he had spoken to the Prime Minister about the action to be taken. He also said that he had requested the ministers to keep their mobile phones outside during the Council of Ministers meeting. He said that the media talk about the removal of Kulman Ghisingh after the cabinet meeting had gone viral and that he was just making fun of the question.
Minister Gurung even said that he knew the minister who informed the media.
He said, “The cabinet meeting is going on, the decision to remove Kulman ji has been published online 18 minutes before the meeting ended. There is no one there except the ministers and the Chief Secretary. Who said that? I asked the Prime Minister, who said that? Did you say that? Did your honorable ministers say that? Did the Chief Secretary say that? Did someone say that? Even before the spokesperson went down and stood in front of the microphone, it was already in the news, it was online. Who is here to be called the minister’s online reporter? If not, the spokesperson Why did you say it without saying it? Now, you should stop bringing your mobile phone to the cabinet. It should be made a matter of action. Now, when you come to the cabinet meeting, you should keep your mobile phone outside. No one except the spokesperson will say it. What kind of country is this that relies on God? We should manage it ourselves. There were two other issues that day, I could not come and Minister Kulman Ghising was removed as soon as he got out of the car? How did you know that Kulman said it if I did. This matter has become so viral that you should not have said it. I only asked a sarcastic question saying that he had already known the information. Now I know who that minister is.”
Minister Gurung clarified that the decision of the Council of Ministers was made public only after 24 hours as the decisions made by the government have to be withdrawn at some point. He said that he was not a spokesperson to express personal opinions.
