Kathmandu. The work of political appointments is currently underway in important bodies of the country’s economy. The Securities and Exchange Board of Nepal has appointed a chairman, while the Insurance Authority is likely to get a new chairman on Monday (Magh 12).
A 7-day notice has been issued for the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Monday itself. The process of appointing a governor is starting in the National Bank.
Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has been given important responsibility in the political appointments to be made in all these four bodies. Political appointments have important meanings in these bodies. Since one can work for 5 years in a single appointment, there is a fierce competition to get appointments in such bodies. Minister Poudel has appointed the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of Nepal. The process in insurance is also almost complete. He is becoming such a lucky finance minister that within 9 months of becoming the finance minister, he is making appointments in 4 important bodies.
Finance Minister Poudel had appointed Santosh Narayan Shrestha, a controversial person, to the Securities and Exchange Board of Nepal some time ago. The middlemen have scattered from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority to the Parliament, alleging that Rs 5 billion was misappropriated in the appointment.
Process to select CEO in NEPSE begins
The Ministry of Finance has formed a three-member committee on Sunday (Magh 11) to select the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in NEPSE. The committee, coordinated by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Sewantak Pokharel, has Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Amrit Lamsal as a member and Dr. Khomraj Kharel as an expert member. The committee has invited applications from those interested in becoming CEOs of NEPSE.
Insurance Authority to be appointed today
The selection committee for the appointment of the chairman of the Insurance Authority on Sunday recommended three people. According to sources, the names of three people, including Sharad Ojha and Ram Sharan Pudasaini, have been submitted to the Council of Ministers for the chairmanship of the Insurance Authority. Out of the 12 people who applied, Sharad Ojha, Ram Sharan Pudasaini, Kamal Regmi, Damodar Basaula and Chiranjeevi Chapagain are among the top five. The names of the three people who scored the most points in the interview and business action plan from the five people have been submitted to the Council of Ministers. The meeting of the Council of Ministers is scheduled to be held in the evening. There is a competition between Sharad Ojha and Ram Sharan Pudasaini in the Insurance Authority. If the Insurance Authority falls under the Nepali Congress, Sharad Ojha will become the chairman. If the Authority falls under the UML, Pudasaini will become the chairman.
Governor appointment process begins in the National Bank
With 1 month left for the term of the Governor of the National Bank, Maha Prasad Adhikari, the discussion of a new governor has begun. Governor Adhikari is currently in the final preparations for the second quarter review. His term ends on Chaitra 12. However, since the government will not conduct the governor appointment process based on a public call, it is difficult to predict who will become the governor.
