The highest number of tourists in Manaslu area so far

Gorkha. A total of 12,259 foreign tourists have visited Manaslu area of Northern Gorkha till Mid-April of the current fiscal year. According to manaslu conservation area project (MCAP), this number is the highest so far.

According to MCAP Chief Santosh Sherchan, 9,782 tourists visited the area in the fiscal year 2080/81, 7,705 in the fiscal year 2079/80 and 2,284 in the fiscal year 2078/79. According to him, the number of tourists is increasing every year. Stating that MCAP had set a target of attracting 12,500 tourists in the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, 98.07 per cent of the target has been achieved, he said, adding that tourism is expected to enter more than the target in the current fiscal year.

Project chief Sherchan said, “The arrival of tourists was low after covid-19, adding that only 194 tourists had visited the area in the fiscal year 2077/78 BS. The number of tourists visiting the area in the fiscal year 2076 BS. It was 5,338 in 2077 and 7,655 in 2075/76.

According to MCAP chief Sherchan, tourists from SAARC countries will have to pay Rs 1,000 per person and tourists from other countries will have to pay Rs 3,000 to enter manaslu area. According to him, tourists will be able to pay the entry fee at bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu and damsite counters in Pokhara.

“Tourists who have not paid the entry fee in these two places will have to pay double the fee at MCAP’s Jagat and Samagaun checkposts to enter the area,” sherchan said. According to him, tourists have to take permission from the Department of Immigration to visit manaslu conservation area as it is considered a prohibited area.

The Department gives permission for a week’s visit to Chum and Nubri Valley. According to MCAP chief Santosh Sherchan, tourists have to pay $50 per person during the tourist season and only $25 in the unseasonal season. According to him, for Nubri Valley, there is a provision to pay $ 70 per person per person during the season and $ 35 in the basin. If you want to travel for more days other than a week, you have to pay an additional fee. There are seven wards of Chumnubri Rural Municipality in Manaslu area.

The conservation area covers the erstwhile Sirdibas, Lho, Prok, Bihi, Samagaun, Chumchet and Chhekampar VDCs. Among them, samagaun, Lho, Prok and Bihi VDCs are known as Nubri Valley, while Chumchet and Chhekampar are known as Chum Valley. Manaslu area has been open to tourists since 1995.
