Rupandehi. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has said that the government wants to work together with the private sector. At the 66th annual general meeting of the Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry held in Bhairahawa today, he argued that the government cannot be strong if the private sector is weak and stressed that everyone should move forward together in building the country.

Talking about the problem of trunk lines and dedicated feeder lines seen in Rupandehi, Minister Khadka commented that it is the responsibility of the industrialists to pay the electricity bill used, but making the industrialists pay the bill based on false details is an atrocity. “It is unacceptable for the government to sit in a responsible government body, submit false information and cause suffering to the people,” he said. “I know that those who have not used it in the name of dedicated power have been sent a bill not only for the tariff but also for the compensation.”

Minister Khadka said that 22 industries in Rupandehi are facing problems due to the same reason and stressed that industrialists should pay the bill after verifying the electricity they have used. He assured that the government will solve this problem as it is tyranny and injustice to make them pay the bill only on the basis of the distance from the dedicated line.

Minister Khadka said that they still have to purchase 1,000 megawatts of electricity in the winter, and that the government now plans to move forward with large projects, pay attention to electricity security, and increase domestic consumption to increase income sources. ‘The government has decided that we will consume 13,500 megawatts of electricity internally in 10 years,’ he said, ‘along with that, we will sell the excess electricity we have to India and Bangladesh. In this way, we are working with the goal of converting what we are importing into exports and making the country prosperous, and producing 28,500 megawatts of electricity in 10 years.’

During the program, Lumbini Province President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Krishna Prasad Sharma, said that there are problems in both import and export and urged the private sector to create an environment for working. ‘Currently, the private sector, like the government, is also concerned about making the market dynamic. If you give electricity to India at nine rupees per unit, why not give it to the industrialists here at eight rupees? If the dispute over trunk lines and dedicated lines is resolved quickly, some problems will be resolved, he said.

Federation central member Rajesh Kumar Agrawal suggested increasing capital expenditure. He stressed the need to make real estate transactions dynamic to make the market dynamic.

Lumbini Provincial Assembly member Santosh Kumar Pandey said that the central government needs to increase investment in the province as there are many tourist centers including Lumbini. He urged for the operation of Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa.
