Morang. Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has said that the government is serious about making Maithali and Limbu languages the working languages of the province government in the province. He said this at a program titled ‘Nepal’s Inclusive Voice, Radio Nepal, News and Program Broadcasting Issues and Role’ organized by Public Service Broadcasting Service Nepal, Radio Nepal in Biratnagar today. Chief Minister Karki stated that the government is committed to necessary discussions, law-making, script research, development and promotion regarding the use of the language.
Emphasizing the need to preserve the religion, culture and language of all ethnic groups and maintain national unity, he suggested that students from grades 9 to 12 should be connected to the radio for moral education, discipline and reduction of addiction.
Provincial Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Rewatiraman Bhandari praised the important role played by the government media in keeping the society informed during the disaster. Public Service Broadcasting Nepal Chairman Dr. Mahendra Bista said that radio is playing an important role in preserving the languages spoken by various ethnic groups scattered across the country.
Program coordinator Tara Prasad Vasti and director of Tarani Prasad Koirala Memorial Media House Biratnagar Pushkar Raj Gautam informed about the work done by the media house. In the interaction, Pradeep Bhagat, Chandra Rajbanshi, Suryanarayan Mudiyari, and Associate Professor Maha Prasad Khatiwada asked questions about the news broadcast by Radio Nepal in different languages.
