Kavrepalanchok. Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has maintained that the current government has no right to do anything against the constitution. At the inauguration of the cold storage facility established by the Women’s Agricultural Cooperative Organization active in Panauti, Kavrepalanchok today and the local agricultural product exhibition program, he expressed confidence that the current government will not engage in any activities against the constitution as it is working with the people in mind.
Minister Adhikari said that the government will systematically solve the problems of farmers, including agricultural marketing and promotion, seen in agricultural production. He said that the problems of dairy farmers are being solved and committed to identifying and solving problems in other sectors.
‘When I became the minister, 11 months of milk farmers’ money was still to be paid. We have now reduced it to six months, last week the money for payment was exhausted in nine places, now we will gradually reduce the remaining period by giving money,’ he said.
Minister Adhikari said that a special program will be introduced for reducing pesticides and chemical fertilizer management in agriculture, and urged farmers to take precautions if they have to use them as they cannot stop using pesticides all at once. He said, ‘Continue to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers in the soil and increase the use of organic fertilizers. The government is already starting preparations for effective fertilizer management next year.’
Adhikari said that discussions are underway at the ministry level to purchase 20 to 22 billion of the 27 billion allocated for fertilizer management for the coming year and use the remaining amount to make farmers produce organic, biological and bacterial fertilizers at home. Nepali Congress central member Madhu Prasad Acharya stressed that the government should give priority to farmers while formulating every plan and program. He suggested that the government continue to solve the problems seen in agricultural products, including dairy products, in favor of farmers.
On the occasion, Panchkhal Municipality Mayor Mahesh Kharel urged to bring relief programs for farmers in Kavrepalanchowk, which is famous for food, milk and vegetable production. Sumitra Banjara, chairperson of the organization, emphasized that the government should provide necessary support and coordination in cold storage management at the local level.
