Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The government has decided to revise the exchange rate of Indian rupee and Nepali rupee. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on May 29 decided to review the exchange rate with the rupee within the next one year.
At present, the exchange rate of 100 rupees is 160 Nepali rupees. And this is a constant exchange rate.
“Study and research the alternative to exchange rates with the Indian rupee. The government’s decision says. And this study will be completed by the Ministry of Finance within the next one year. After the conclusion of the study, the government will take necessary decision on the option of exchange rate of Nepali currency with the rupee. In this study, the option of fixed fixed peg rate (fixed peg) and 160 Nepali rupees of the existing 100 rupees will also be put forward.
There has been a debate in Nepal that the time has come to change the ratio of fixed peg and exchange rate with the rupee. One of the experts suggests that the fixed peg should be removed. Some other experts, however, believe that the current rate should be reconsidered.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) will play an important role in this matter. Bishwanath Poudel’s thinking will mean a lot.
