Kathmandu. Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Prof. Dr. Shivraj Adhikari, has said that the national target is to create 500,000 green jobs by 2030 through nature-based businesses, local innovation and low carbon emissions.
Inaugurating the workshop on “Consulting for Resilience: Bhutan-Nepal Dialogue on Bioeconomy and Circular Economy” organized by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Kathmandu on Monday, Vice Chairman Adhikari said that the Planning Commission is committed to this work as the policies and partnerships of the Planning Commission are of great importance to ensure real results.
He said that Nepal is committed to investing in partnerships to build an inclusive, sustainable and resilient future for Nepal and the entire Hindu Kush Himalayan region, adding that Nepal is committed to creating green jobs, climate-smart enterprises, and building ecosystems. .
He also said that shared experiences and mutual learning would open new doors for access, benefit sharing, and collaboration in circular economies. “We need to understand that entrepreneurship is not just an economic activity – it is also a powerful driver of inclusive and climate-resilient development, as the Government of Nepal has made clear through its national policies and programs,” said Vice President Adhikari.
Vice President Adhikari said that they now have startup and innovation policies, and that Nepal has laid important foundations in this regard in recent years. He also expressed the view that mentorship should not be seen as an optional service in the entrepreneurship ecosystem, but should be embraced as a strategy to transform our economy and communities.
He also said that this is a milestone as entrepreneurs have taken the bold step of institutionalizing mentorship in Nepal’s entrepreneurship ecosystem for the first time.
He claimed that by investing in mentorship, we can invest in the capacity of people to solve local problems, create decent work, and build businesses that respect both nature and community.
