The gender pay gap persists in every industry in Australia, with women earning 30,000 Australian dollars less.

Agency. The gender pay gap persists in every industry in Australia, a study has found. 83 per cent of employers in male-dominated industries have a gender pay gap. Women earn about 30,000 Australian dollars (US$18,630) less than men a year.

The Employer Gender Pay Gap Report shows that half of all employers still pay men 12 per cent more than women.

Nationally, women still earn an average of 28,425 Australian dollars (US$17,652) less a year. The report, published for the second time by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, covers 7,080 individual employers and 1,700 corporate groups.

More than half have improved their gender pay gap compared to last year. Nationwide, 5,347 employers, or 72.2 percent, maintain a gender pay gap in favor of men.

While 21.3 percent maintain a neutral gap. This is defined as the average pay difference plus or minus 5 percent. Meanwhile, 6.5 percent, or 474 employers, reported a pay gap that benefits women.

Public reporting of gender pay gap data provides employers with an incentive to take steps to address the gender pay gap.
