Kathmandu. Ganesh Karki, President of the Independent Power Producers Association (IPPAN), has said that Nepal does not have enough electricity. Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Sunday, he said that even now, looking at the dispute between the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and the Electricity Authority of Nepal, it is clear that Nepal does not have enough electricity.

He said that even now, arguing about whether load shedding should be done in Nepal means that there is not enough electricity. He said that it is clear that Nepal does not have enough electricity to provide sufficient electricity not only to homes but also to the industrial sector.

Says that more emphasis should be placed on production to keep the industrial sector and hydropower sector running, and he said that investors in hydropower are increasing day by day. He stressed that work should proceed as per the government’s target of producing 28,500 megawatts. He said that if we can increase investment in the hydropower sector, we can send a message that we can work in Nepal.

Chairman Karki said, “There are many debates these days. Despite all this, we are discussing whether load shedding occurs or not? And India only provides electricity for the whole day. We are debating what the government and the Electricity Authority say. What we need to understand is that we do not have enough electricity. With our electricity, we should really focus on production, not only for homes, but also for industries to run, so that we can be free from load shedding.”

Chairman Karki said that they are moving forward in generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity. He said that he had also given about 20 suggestions to the government for this.

He said that there should be a powerful energy ministry and a single-door system to increase energy production. He said that there is a policy of not allowing entry into the forest and that attention should be paid to it. He said that the upcoming electricity bill will determine whether the people will invest in hydropower or not.

Chairman Karki said, “In fact, we are moving forward with the issue of 28,500. To fulfill that, we have written about 20 things and given them to the ministry. There should be a powerful energy ministry. There should be a single-door system. There is a policy of not allowing entry into the forest, and recently the court has struck down an act made by the Nepal government or Nepali parliamentarians. Therefore, there is a question of whether entry into the forest is allowed or not.” Such things take 5/7 years. Some say it is possible, by 2023. Everything should be done in a simple way. The electricity bill has been stuck in the infrastructure committee of the parliament, the electricity bill says, whether Nepalis should invest or not.’

President Karki said that hydropower is the key to making Nepal prosperous. He said that if energy production can be increased, the import of diesel and petrol can be reduced. He said that more than 6.5 million Nepalis have invested in the energy sector.
