Kathmandu: The ruling party CPN-UML has said that any attempt to overthrow the democratic republic will not succeed. The decision was taken at the party’s secretariat meeting held at the party’s central office in Chyasal on Monday.
Announcing the decision of the meeting, party Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali said that the meeting had drawn the serious attention of the CPN-UML to the well-planned activities being carried out against the democratic republic and the constitution of Nepal for some time.
Noting that the democratic republic is the result of the seven-decade-long sacrificial struggle of the Nepali people, he asserted that any attempt to reverse this decision of the people and turn the country in a backward direction would not be successful.
He said that even in the 21st century, the debate on hereditary rule of innate superiority is itself ridiculous, harmful and meaningless. The UML has stated that it is committed to the effective implementation of the constitution, ensuring political stability, good governance, effective service delivery and moving towards economic development and reform.
It has stated that it is determined to further strengthen the democratic system by reviewing a decade of the implementation of the constitution. Deputy Secretary General Gyawali said that the meeting approved the names of 28 members added to the province sent for approval by the Lumbini Province Committee.
He said, ‘For some time now, the serious attention of the CPN-UML has been drawn to the well-planned activities being carried out against the democratic republic and the constitution of Nepal. The democratic republic is the result of the seven-decade-long sacrificial struggle of the Nepali people. Contrary to the agreements made during the past movement, the monarchy repeatedly attacked the rights of the people and moved towards totalitarianism, so the historic Constituent Assembly established the Federal Democratic Republic with the conclusion that monarchy and democracy cannot go together. Any attempt to reverse this decision of the people and turn the country back in a backward direction cannot succeed.’
‘Nepal has achieved significant progress in a short period of time since the establishment of democracy. There is a lot of work to be done, but attempts to deny the achievements, create negative narratives, lower the morale of the people and the nation, and on the pretext of that, turn the country back in an undemocratic direction are unacceptable. “Even in the 21st century, the debate on hereditary rule of innate superiority is itself a ridiculous, harmful and meaningless topic,” he said.
He argued that even in the current era, the opposition parties’ attempts to divide power in the government and create a ladder to enter the government have raised serious moral questions.
