Kathmandu. The Council of Ministers is scheduled to meet at 5 pm on Thursday. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called a Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday evening.
The Council of Ministers will meet at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. It is understood that today’s Council of Ministers meeting will appoint the Governor of the National Bank. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that Prime Minister Oli has already received the Governor of the National Bank. He has said that the delay in appointing the Governor of the National Bank has occurred due to internal reasons within the bank.
The Nepali Congress has put forward the name of Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, Director of the National Bank. It is understood that the UML has also agreed to the name. After the dispute between the two parties over the appointment of the governor escalated, the government was threatened to be toppled.
Dr. Bhatta has already resigned to become the governor. However, the acting governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Neelam Dhungana, has refused to accept his resignation. The Council of Ministers had formed a recommendation committee on Chaitra 11, 2081 to appoint the governor. Initially, the committee included Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, former governor Vijayanath Bhattarai, and economist Dr. Bishwa Poudel as members. Former governor Bhattarai resigned, saying that middlemen were dominant in the appointment of the governor. Former governor Mahaprasad Adhikari has now been appointed as a member in his place. But the committee meeting has not been held yet.
