Kathmandu. The Health Insurance Board is going to make arrangements for foreign citizens coming to Nepal to be compulsorily affiliated with health insurance to reduce financial risks. This information was given while organizing a press conference at the board’s office on Sunday.
Speaking at the press conference, Executive Director of the board, Dr. Raghuraj Kafle, said that arrangements will be made for people’s representatives at all levels, employees, workers going for foreign employment, general citizens and foreign citizens coming to Nepal to be compulsorily affiliated with health insurance.
He expressed confidence that this will fulfill the government’s slogan of ‘Universal Health Coverage’ and will also prove to be a milestone in reducing the financial risks of the Health Insurance Board. He said that the scattered health assistance and subsidy programs will also be integrated, and the treatment assistance and health service programs provided by the local levels will also be brought under the board.
He said, “People’s representatives at all levels, employees working in various bodies of the Government of Nepal, people working in organizations, people going for foreign employment and their families, general citizens and foreign citizens coming to Nepal will be made mandatory members of health insurance. Due to which the government’s slogan of universal health coverage will be fulfilled. And we believe that this will prove to be a milestone in reducing the financial risk of the Health Insurance Board. Similarly, the integration of scattered health assistance and subsidy programs, many health service programs are being operated in parallel by the Ministry of Health and Population and various bodies of the Government of Nepal. Similarly, the provincial government and local levels have also been providing assistance and subsidies to the citizens for easy treatment. Thus, the scattered programs will be integrated and brought under the Health Insurance Board.
Executive Director Kafle also said that talks have been taken forward between the board and the Ministry of Health and Population to integrate health subsidy services at all levels.
