Mustang. Mustang: A 218-year-old dharamshala of Baragung Muktikshetra-1, Purang Ranipauwa in Mustang has been upgraded for the convenience of pilgrims visiting Muktinath.

Subarna Prabha, the wife of the then King Rana Bahadur Sah, had announced the construction of a dharamshala during her visit to Muktinath during the rana rule.

Queen SuvarnaPrabha had established a dharamshala to ensure that the devotees visiting Muktinath do not face any inconvenience of food and accommodation, wishing happiness and peace to the family. Swami Bharat Koirala, who was deputed for the maintenance and management of Muktinath Ranipauwa Dharamshala, said that the dharamshala has been named Ranipauwa Dharamshala as it has been constructed by rani.

According to him, there are 21 devotees’ living rooms in the two-storey Ranipauwa Dharamshala, built of stone and clay in the ancient style. “Devotees, saints and priests living here were facing problems as the dharamshala was getting old and dilapidated. In view of the problems of the devotees, the repair of dharamshala has been started at the initiative of Jagadguru Swami Kamalnayanacharya,” he said.

Ramesh Gurung, a representative of the construction company, informed that the reconstruction of Muktinath Dharamshala has been started with a budget of Rs 7.4 million with the cost sharing of Baragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality of Mustang and the Department of Archaeology. According to him, dharamshala is being upgraded in such a way that its existing beauty is not disturbed.

According to Gurung, work is underway to repair the toilets, paints, toilets and bathrooms, windows and windows of dharamshala. “I have taken the contract for religious virtue and we are in favor of maintaining the quality according to the budget rather than profit,” he said, adding, “We are working in a 100 percent way as per the agreement.”

It is also an opportunity to serve muktinath as it is for the visitors. Swami Koirala, who has been deputed for the management of ranipauwa dharamshala, said that initiatives have been taken to upgrade the pilgrimage, sadhus and priests as they have difficulty in eating and living as it is old and dilapidated.

“Water used to leak from the roof of the dharamshala, toilets and bathrooms were also dilapidated,” he said, adding that the contractors are speeding up the painting and repair works as per the agreement. After the repair, it will be easier for the devotees to stay here. Swami Koirala informed that the repair work of dharamshala has been going on for the last two weeks. “The construction company has committed to complete the work by mid-July.

Now we are upgrading the painting, wall coating and ceiling,” he said. Krishna Prasad Subedi, priest of Muktinath Temple, said that Ranipauwa Dharamshala was constructed by Suvarna Prabha, wife of Rana Bahadur Sah.

“The Queen has established a dharamshala in an area of six ropanis and 12 annas of Muktinath area to provide accommodation and food to the devotees in the ancient style,” he said. Priest Subedi said that foreign religious tourists as well as devotees from Myagdi, Parbat, Syangja and other districts come here.

According to him, Sadavarta Guthi was established during the time of Queen SuvarnaPrabha to produce food crops including food grains for Muktinath and Dharamshala. He said that in this way, the land of guthi is offered to Ranipauwa Dharamshala by Sadavarta Guthi.

“Some of the Guthi lands in Myagdi, Parbat and Syangja in the name of Muktinath Temple and Dharamshala have been converted into indigenous ones while some are in the name of Sadavarta Guthi,” subedi said. According to him, the person earning land in the name of Sadavarta Guthi has stopped paying the share of adhia for two decades. He said that till 2046 BS, the crops produced in Myagdi were handed over to the people who earned land gradually.
